Sangeeta Charan
Artist Statement
"I deconstruct reality and weave visual thoughts into colour, shape and texture, to describe ideas, feelings and emotions."
Sangeeta is an abstract artist who works with mixed media.
Drawing inspiration from surroundings, experiences and memories, her art emphasizes hues, shapes and textures. She weaves colours, layer by layer; dragging, rolling, dropping and smudging paints onto her canvas with brushes and a variety of tools. It remains a process of experimentation with paints pulsating expressions, till a balance is struck capturing the desired emotions.
Over the past 20 years, she amassed a rich collection of paintings, sculptures and installations that explore a variety of themes, considerably expanded her scope of influence; held exhibitions and participated in art fairs in Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Malaysia, Mumbai and Bangalore. She is grateful to all those who have supported her efforts and appreciated her works.
Though primarily self-taught, Sangeeta has taken courses in art history, contemporary arts, and holds a certificate in basic and specialized sculpture from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. She is a postgraduate in Life Science (M.Sc.), with a degree in education (B.Ed.). An accomplished educator she has been teaching since the early 1990s, in schools as well as at her studio.
As an arts teacher, her goal is to inspire, to bring forth ideas, hone skills and develop creativity. Besides teaching techniques, Sangeeta aims to expand her student's minds through art.
Art was her first love. Drawn to it from an early age, art has always been her source of strength and inspiration. It is her sanctuary, her respite from a world of troubles, the place where she can truly be herself.
